Kim H. Esbensen, a geologist/geochemist/data analyst of training, has been working 20+ years in the forefront of chemometrics, but since 2000 has devoted most of his scientific and R&D to the theme of representative sampling of heterogeneous materials, processes and systems (Theory of Sampling, TOS), PAT (Process Analytical Technology) and chemometrics. He is a member of five scientific societies and has published over 250 peer-reviewed papers. Prof. Tom Fearn, University College London, UK

Tom Fearn is Professor of Applied Statistics at University College London, UK, where he is currently Head of the Department of Statistical Science.  Before joining UCL in 1989 he worked for the Flour Milling and Baking Research Association (FMBRA) at Chorleywood, where he first began to calibrate NIR instruments (a 6-filter InfraAlyser 2.5) in1978.  His interest in NIR and in chemometrics more generally has continued to the present. As well as 140 or so papers his publications include joint authorship of the books Practical NIR Spectroscopy, with Osborne and Hindle, and A User Friendly Guide to Multivariate Calibration and Classification, with Næs, Isaksson and Davies.  He is chemometrics editor of the Journal of Near Infrared Spectroscopy and writes the Chemometric Space column in NIR News.  He received the Tomas Hirschfeld award for contributions to near infrared spectroscopy in 2001. 

Prof. Wouter Saeys, KU Leuven, Belgique

Wouter Saeys obtained his Master’s degree in Bioscience Engineering from KU Leuven, in 2002. On the basis of his Master’s thesis, he was awarded  the engineering prize by the Royal Flemish Society of Engineers (KVIV). In 2006, he obtained a PhD in Bioscience Engineering from KU Leuven under the supervision of Professors Herman Ramon and Josse De Baerdemaeker. After this, he specialised in light transport modelling during a six month stay at the School for Chemical Engineering and Advanced Materials of the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, UK, under the supervision of Dr. Suresh Thennadil and in Chemometrics during a six month stay at the Norwegian Food Research Institute – Matforsk, Norway, under the supervision of Dr. Tormod Naes. Since 2010 he is assistant professor at the Biosystems Department of KU Leuven, where he leads the Biophotonics group with a focus on applications in the AgroFood chain. His main research interests include light transport modelling and optical characterisation of biological materials, chemometrics, agricultural automation and robotics. He has supervised 10 PhDs, is (co-)author of 100+ peer reviewed journal articles (ISI), and has an H-index of 15.

Prof. Roberto Todeschini, University of Milano-Bicocca, Italy

Roberto Todeschini is full professor of chemometrics at the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences of the University of Milano-Bicocca (Milano, Italy), where he constituted the Milano Chemometrics and QSAR Research Group. His main research activities concern chemometrics in all its aspects, QSAR, molecular descriptors, multicriteria decision making and software development. President of the International Academy of Mathematical Chemistry from 2008 to 2014, president of the Italian Chemometric Society and “ad honorem” professor of the University of Azuay (Cuenca, Ecuador), he is author of more than 180 publications on international journals and of the books “The Data Analysis Handbook”, by I.E. Frank and R. Todeschini; Elsevier, 1994, the “Handbook of Molecular Descriptors”, by R. Todeschini and V. Consonni; Wiley-VCH, 2000 and the “Molecular Descriptors for Chemoinformatics” R. Todeschini and V. Consonni; Wiley-VCH, 2009.

Barry M. Wise, Eigenvector, USA

Dr. Barry M. Wise, PLS_Toolbox creator and President and co-founder of Eigenvector Research, holds a doctorate in Chemical Engineering and has experience in a wide variety of applications spanning chemical process monitoring, modeling and analytical instrumental development. He has extensive teaching experience, having presented over 100 chemometrics courses and has co-authored over 50 peer reviewed articles, book chapters and patents. Dr. Wise is the winner of the 2001 EAS Award for Achievements in Chemometrics. He has organized and chaired numerous conferences including the First International Chemometrics InterNet Conference InCINC ’94, 1995 Gordon Research Conference on Statistics in Chemistry, Three-way Methods in Chemistry and Psychology TRICAP ’97, and Chemometrics in Analytical Chemistry, CAC-2002. Barry is also very active in the alpine ski racing community and is winner of the Pacific Northwest Ski Association’s John Genoud Award for service as a race official in 2012 and the Mission Ridge Ski Team Hampton award for volunteer service.
